In Port Harcourt, a group of four fleeing armed robbers collided with traders conducting their daily business on Bishop Okoye Street in the Mile 3 area of Rivers State on Tuesday. The traders, who were exhibiting their wares and merchandise, found themselves in the path of the robbers as they attempted to evade capture.
According to reports, law enforcement officers pursued the suspected robbers as they sped along Bishop Okoye Street in a Sienna car, prompting local residents to seek safety from the commotion.
However, Grace Iringe-Koko, the spokesperson for the State Police Command, revealed that three of the perpetrators were apprehended by police officers when they attempted to flee the scene of the crime. Iringe-Koko, speaking to our correspondent over the phone, confirmed the arrests and mentioned that efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspect who managed to escape.
She stated, “Yes, they were arrested by officers from the Olu Obasanjo police station in collaboration with the Nkpolu Police Division. They (the suspects) are currently in our custody, and an investigation is ongoing.”
Meanwhile, several traders in the market reported damage to their goods and injuries sustained while the robbers attempted to evade capture. Rachael, one of the affected traders, recounted witnessing a Sienna vehicle occupied by four individuals wielding firearms with their heads protruding from the windows as they passed through the market area.
