SUSPECTED ORGAN HARVESTING: NAPTIP BRINGS HOSPITAL, FOUR OTHERS TO COURT

A group of four individuals, including Alliance Hospital in Abuja, has been brought before the Federal High Court in Zuba, Abuja, by the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) on charges related to alleged organ harvesting.

The accused, among them a staff member of Alliance Hospital named Doctor Christopher Otabor, faces an eleven-count indictment for the purported organ harvesting procedures conducted on three patients at Alliance Hospital in Area Eleven, Garki Abuja, spanning from February to May 2023. Despite the charges, the accused individuals entered pleas of not guilty.

Subsequently, Justice Kezia Ogbonnaya, the presiding judge, granted bail to three of the accused individuals – Doctor Aremu Abayomi, Emmanuel Olorunleye, and Chikaodili Ugochuku – under the condition that they report daily to NAPTIP headquarters and sign an attendance register. Additionally, they were instructed to surrender their travel documents to the court. Doctor Christopher Otabor, already on bail as per the FCT High Court Maitama, was exempted from this directive.
