In the capital city of Dakar, security forces resorted to dispersing crowds by deploying tear gas amidst the chaos.

The eruption of mass protests across Senegal ensued subsequent to the announcement of the deferment of the 25th of February elections to the 15th of December. President Macky Sall’s denial of any intention to cling to power amid the postponement has further inflamed public ire and exacerbated the unrest.

The delay in the presidential elections has precipitated widespread discontent among Senegalese citizens, who perceive it as a dire encroachment upon democratic norms and the sanctity of the electoral framework.
Many regard the postponement as a strategic maneuver by the incumbent administration to prolong its tenure, thereby exacerbating tensions and unrest.

The government’s response to these protests is poised to significantly influence the trajectory of political stability and civil discord in the nation in the ensuing days and weeks.

As Senegal grapples with the mounting tensions and outbreaks of violence, there exists an urgent imperative for dialogue, transparency, and accountability to redress the grievances of the populace and reinstate confidence in the democratic process. The global community keenly monitors these developments, underling the imperative of upholding fundamental human rights and the rule of law amidst the ongoing unrest.
