Ondo State Government Declares Two-Day Public Holiday for Akeredolu’s Funeral

Governor Aiyedatiwa Announces February 22nd and 23rd as State Holidays The Ondo State administration, helmed by Governor Hon Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, has decreed Thursday, the 22nd, and Friday, the 23rd of February 2024 as official holidays throughout the State. This proclamation is a gesture of deference to the departed former Governor of the State, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Odunayo Akeredolu, SAN, CON, affording citizens the opportunity to participate in the ceremonies marking his interment.

The twofold public hiatus is intended to commemorate the existence and contributions of the erstwhile Governor, affording the denizens of the State the chance to offer their final tributes. The burial proceedings commenced last Thursday and are set to extend over several events.

On Wednesday, the 21st of February, the itinerary includes Ajabue (Traditional Rites) in Owo from 9 am to 4 pm, followed by a Special Court Session at Court 1, Ondo State High Court Headquarters, Hospital Road, Akure, commencing at 10 am. Moreover, there will be a Lying in State and Commendation Service at the Akure Township Stadium commencing at 1 pm. An Evening of Tributes is scheduled to take place at St Andrews Church, Imola Street, Owo, from 4 pm to 7 pm.

Thursday, the 22nd of February, designated as a public holiday, will see the continuation of the burial events with a Service of Songs planned at St Andrews Cathedral, Imola Street. This occasion will provide another opportunity for relatives, acquaintances, and sympathizers to extend their respects and commemorate the memory of the late former Governor.
