24 students of the Federal University of Gusau, 10 construction workers, a staff of the university and his daughter were kidnapped on the 22nd of September 2023 in Sabon-Gida, a community hosting the main campus of the university.
However, 13 students and 3 construction workers have been rescued while others are still in Captivity.
The Zamfara University abduction has left an impact on the community, prompting the National President of the Federal Association of Zamfara State Students (FAZAMSS) and students from the Federal University of Gusau to ask the government to prioritize the rescue of the female students who have spent 100 harrowing days in captivity.
The situation has sparked deep concern among students and the broader society as the victims continue to endure unimaginable circumstances.
In response to the abduction, the Zamfara State government, through the Commissioner for Education, Waratau Madawaki, has taken a firm stance, declaring that the government will not negotiate with the terrorist group responsible for this act. The state government emphasized its commitment to not succumb to the demands of these criminal elements, signaling a resolute stand against terrorism and acts of violence that threaten the safety and well-being of its citizens.
