The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has officially revoked the land title of the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja due to nearly two decades of unpaid ground rent.
A letter dated March 13, 2025, and addressed to PDP’s acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, conveyed the revocation decision. The correspondence, signed by Chijioke Nwankwoeze, Director of Land Administration at the FCTA, attributed the drastic measure to the party’s failure to fulfill its financial obligations related to the land.
“Notice of Revocation of Right of Occupancy With File No. MISC 81346 in respect of Plot No. 243 within Central Area District, Abuja”, the letter underscored that the PDP had neglected payment of the mandatory levies from January 1, 2006, to January 1, 2025—a staggering 19-year default period.
Despite repeated notifications and extensive publications by the FCTA in national newspapers and electronic media since 2023, urging property allottees to settle outstanding bills, the party failed to comply, the letter stated.
“You will note that the continued violation of payment obligations by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) regarding the aforementioned property (MISC 81346) contravenes the provisions of Section 28, Subsection 5 (a) and (b) of the Land Use Act,”** the notice read.
“Consequently, Plot No. 243, located in the Central Area, Cadastral Zone A00, Abuja, has now been reclaimed by the Federal Capital Territory Administration, which will immediately assume full possession,”** the letter further declared.
This move comes amid heightened political tensions, as Nyesom Wike—Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and the only PDP stalwart in President Bola Tinubu’s APC-led cabinet—has been embroiled in a prolonged feud with his party’s leadership over the past two years.
